Finding the right senior living community is a significant decision. You found the place that meets all of your care needs and offers amenities that cater to your desired lifestyle, but what about the area that surrounds the community? What does the neighborhood or town have to offer?
The three rules of real estate are just as important in choosing a senior living community as they are when looking for any other home. Location, location, location. If the senior living community offers everything you could have hoped for in a community, but the surrounding area is of no interest to you, you may not be done with your search. You need to live in an area that provides elements that enrich your lifestyle and things to do that you enjoy.
Silver Comet Village, located in Powder Springs, Georgia, offers more than traditional senior living options. Situated in a town that provides many opportunities for individuals to explore and participate in activities, our newly constructed buildings are equipped with compliance and safety measures in place to promote the health and well-being of every individual and team member.
To show you what we are talking about, we have gathered a list of attractions, activities, and opportunities to help you discover the benefits of senior living in Powder Springs, Georgia!
During these uncertain times of COVID-19, it is essential to follow social distancing guidelines and precautions set by the CDC. We encourage you to visit the City of Powder Springs website for more information on procedures and updates.
Discover Powder Springs
Less than 30 miles from Atlanta, Powder Springs, Georgia, is well-positioned in the southeast with convenient access to the Metro Atlanta area.
Beyond the established parks, trails, and downtown area, Powder Springs continues to grow! “Construction for the new park in downtown Powder Springs is currently underway. The downtown park will have an amphitheater, splash pad, outdoor seating, bicycle parking, public art, and more (cityofpowdersprings.org).”
Powder Springs also boasts “a full schedule of events that occur both in the downtown area and throughout the city. There is always plenty of parking, and most events are free to the public. There is something for every age and interest from parades and festivals to family fun runs and concerts (cityofpowdersprings.org).”
The Silver Comet Trail
Originally, the Silver Comet Trail, named after the Silver Comet passenger train, was a rail line that carried freight and passengers throughout the south and southeastern states. As travel declined, the rail line discontinued sleeper, dining, and observation cars, eventually only carrying freight. By 1989, the rail line closed and was abandoned.
In 1992, the Georgia Department of Transportation bought the closed rail line, and it was decided to construct a multi-use, non-motorized trail. With over 61 miles of paved trail stretching west through Cobb, Paulding, and Polk counties, the Silver Comet Trail is wheelchair accessible and offers walkers, hikers, and bicyclists a place to get outside and explore.
One advantage of the Silver Comet Village community is that residents and guests enjoy private access to the trail. Our village is fortunate in that our location provides opportunities for individuals to stay active, participate in activities, and visit local attractions.
The Southern Quilt Trail
For many of us, quilts represent a sense of home and warmth. These family heirlooms are often passed down generation after generation and provide many cozy memories. Now, quilts have taken on a new form. Relive your family memories through the Southern Quilt Trail.
The City of Powder Springs, Georgia, and the Seven Sisters Historical Society has sponsored the Southern Quilt Trail, which is comprised of a growing number of painted quilts. This trail features images on historical barns and buildings in the community and the rural countryside. The historic downtown Powder Springs area is compact and pedestrian-friendly with ample parking available, making it a safe and convenient place to seek out and explore the quilt squares of the trail.
Sleepy Hollow Farm
Sleepy Hollow Farm is a family-owned and operated farm offering activities for every season. From cutting your own Christmas tree to picking pumpkins in the pumpkin patch and venturing through the Escape Woods, this Powder Springs destination has something for the whole family to enjoy!
Getting outside and enjoying everything that each season has to offer is a great way to make family memories and live life to the fullest. Start new family traditions by visiting the animals on the farm, shopping in the country store, and finding your way through the corn maze.
